La Mirada tight end plans to check out the Buffaloes 'sometime soon'

Lost in all of the news leading up to signing day for the Class of 2016 was the fact Colorado extended an offer to three Class of 2017 recruits from La Mirada (Calif.) High: Sire Woods, athlete Elijah Hicks and linebacker Chase Newman.

Sire Woods is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound tight end prospect that also has early offers from Air Force and New Mexico. He is drawing increased interest from Stanford, Dartmouth, Penn State, Oregon State and Colorado State.

“So far Stanford is the only college I have had a chance to visit. I went there on an unofficial visit when they played Washington,” said Woods. “Stanford is a pretty amazing school with great academics, a great family environment, great coaches and great facilities."

Woods mentioned Stanford and Dartmouth among the programs he has high interest in early on in the process, largely because of the high level of academics both schools provide. He wants to major in Business Management and minor in Finance in college. The Buffaloes have also made a good early impression on Woods.

“I love the coach that he is recruiting me from Colorado, Coach 'Chev' (co-offensive coordinator, receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Darrin Chiaverini). I had a chance to meet him at one of the camps I attended last summer,” Woods said.

“I have heard about their new facilities and I definitely want to go out there and take an unofficial visit to Colorado sometime soon,” he added. “I love that program, as well. It is a great opportunity to play Pac-12 football.”

A two-way standout for La Mirada, Woods earned first-team all-CIF and all-league honors as an offensive performer after hauling in five touchdown passes and excelling as a blocker last season. He is already rated a three-star prospect on Rivals.com and is ranked as the 65th best recruit in California from the Class of 2017.

“So far I have heard from the college coaches that they like my overall versatility, my ability to come in and block or go out and run routes. They like my ability to be a great match-up against linebackers and that I can stretch the field, go across the middle, wherever you need me at,” Woods said.

“Right now I would say I am a flex-Y. This off-season I am working on my agility, explosiveness and coming out of my breaks at the line of scrimmage so I can be used as a wide receiver as well," he added. “I just want to be as versatile as possible.”
