Arkansas pledge checks out Buffs

One of the top 40 ranked prospect from the talent rich Bayou State took notice of what the Buffaloes have to offer this past weekend. Dejon Harris took an official visit to Colorado with two of his Marrero (La.) John Ehret teammates.

Inside linebacker recruit Dejon Harris said he has not had second thoughts about his verbal commitment to Arkansas, which he made back in May, but he wanted to look around before signing his letter of intent.

Harris was in Boulder this past weekend with Ca'Ron Baham and Jarrius Wallace, who also have an offer from Colorado. Kenneth Olugbode and Leo Jackson served as his player hosts for the weekend.

“It went good. I liked everything out there at Colorado, especially the new facilities they have built. It is one of the best facilities in the nation,” said Harris, who measured in at 6-foot-0, 235-pounds during his trip to Boulder.

“They are trying to turn their program around by bringing in a lot of talented players," he added. "The Pac-12 looks like a fun conference to play in and I like Colorado's defensive style. Also, the neighborhood and the campus there, it is very nice.”

Baham and Wallace have expressed strong interest in playing together at the next level. Harris is interested in playing with them in college, as well, but he said they are not necessarily a package deal.

“Since we all grew up together, it would be great if we could all go to the same college. But at the end of the day, we are trying to do what is best for us,” Harris said. “I was pushing for Jarrius to get an Arkansas offer but they had already offered a certain amount of defensive backs.

“It was great all three of us could go out to Colorado together. Jarrius and I have certain offers, and Ca'Ron has offers from certain schools, but Colorado was the only school we were considering that had offered all of us. So it was good to go out and see it together.”

Harris will take his official visit to Arkansas this coming weekend and then he will check out Alabama on Jan. 29.

“I am pretty set on Arkansas. I am thinking about the other schools, but I am pretty solid,” he said. “When I went up to Arkansas in the spring, I just felt comfortable and they are in need of linebackers that can come in and make an impact early.

“I have never visited Alabama before so I just want to see their facilities, the school, the campus and tour around the area. I told my head coach, after I come back from the Alabama visit, that Monday, I will go ahead and let him know if I am sticking with Arkansas or if I am interested in going to another school.”

Harris expects to host in-home visits with coaches from Colorado, Arkansas and Alabama this week. He also received offers from Arizona State, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Monroe, Memphis, Oregon, Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane, UCF and Western Kentucky earlier in the recruiting process.

A first-team all-state and all-metro selection after helping John Ehret to the 5A state championship game in 2015, Harris expects to keep playing middle linebacker in college.

“Most of the coaches say they like my physicality and my size,” Harris said. “Even though I am pretty big, I am built the right way with good weight. They also like my speed for my size, my ability to go sideline-to-sideline.”
