Lytle turns from recruit to recruiter

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you know the Buffaloes landed their top quarterback target earlier this week. We caught up with Anaheim (Calif.) Servite gunslinger Tyler Lytle to get the lowdown on his decision to join the herd.

Tyler Lytle is considered the nation's No. 21 pro-style quarterback recruit from the Class of 2017.

What ultimately sold you on committing to the Buffs?

Tyler Lytle: "The entire staff was recruiting me really hard: [Head] coach [Mike] Mac[Intyre], [co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks] coach [Brian] Lindgren, [co-offensive coordinator and receivers] coach 'Chev' (Darrin Chiaverini) and [offensive line] coach [Klayton] Adams. I was getting recruited by the whole offensive staff. That was pretty big for me. That and I feel like Colorado is on the edge of becoming a really dominant program and getting back to what it once was. It is something I wanted to be part of."

What made you want to come out to Boulder to commit to the staff in person?

"Well, first I wanted to call all the coaches that have offered me and that were recruiting me and thank them for giving me an opportunity. And then I really wanted to come out to Colorado and do it in person because I think it means a lot more to look someone in the eye and commit. I met with Coach MacIntyre, gave him my commitment and then we walked into the offensive staff meeting room and told them. It was a lot of fun. They were all psyched, excited, and so was I. The athletic director (Rick George) actually came down to meet with my family. That meant a lot."

Over the course of the process, you received 26 offers... just how stressful have the last few months been for you, trying to make a final decision?

"I wouldn't say stressful. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it as much as I could. You only do it once and I definitely wanted it to be one of those things that I remember 30 years down the road. It was a great journey. It was pretty amazing. I met a lot of great people. I have been to a great places, but at the end I decided Colorado is the best for me."

Was there a particular moment when you realized you definitely wanted to go to Colorado?

"I was down to a few schools and my mom was actually the one that thought of this: each night I went to bed in the mindset that I was committed to one of those schools. Colorado was the only one where I woke up and didn't have any second thoughts about it. It just felt right."

What type of quarterback will Colorado be getting when you join the team?

"Someone who is going to work their butt off, and it actually starts right now with me recruiting to help get the players that it will take to turn this program around. They'll get someone who can lead a group of guys, and a guy that people want to rally around and follow and hopefully lead them in the right direction."

What would you like to improve on the most from now until the time you begin your college career?

"Right now I am just focused on the season and becoming a better leader for my team, and getting us to the next level. It is a similar situation at Servite as it is as Colorado, trying to get the program back to being successful."

Chris Miller mentioned the close bond he has with you and some other CU recruits. He said the group chat you guys have was a big part of his decision...

"It is definitely a tight group. A bunch of those guys that previously committed have been recruiting me pretty hard. I definitely felt the love and it is going to be fun playing with those guys on the field. Those guys are going to help us recruit through the rest of this process and I am really excited to keep the momentum going."

You went to visit a couple Ivy League schools so obviously academics are important to you... what do you want to study at Colorado?

"I plan on going into the Leeds School of Business."
