During the Pac-12's spring football coaches teleconference on Tuesday afternoon, Buffs head coach Mike MacIntrye said he still expects defensive lineman Josh Tupou and quarterback Davis Webb to be on campus at Colorado this summer.

Due to student privacy laws, members of Colorado's football staff and athletic department have not been able to share specifics about Tupou's absence from the team the last 10-and-a-half months. It is widely assumed his actions in an off-the-field incident on University Hill last March resulted in a suspension from the University.

Before the incident, Tupou started 31 games and was one of Colorado's most consistent players during the 2012, 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was named honorable mention all-conference for his performance as a junior. Tupou will have just one season of eligibility remaining to compete with the Buffaloes this fall.

“Josh Tupou will be returning to the team. He should be here this summer,” MacIntyre confirmed. “To me he is a pro nose guard. He is 6-foot-4, 325-pounds. He is very athletic, he can bend, he can move. He is perfect for our 3-4 defense and he'll be a big key for our defense.”

MacIntyre is likely tired of fielding questions about Davis Webb. But since the former Texas Tech gunslinger is continuing to talk with other colleges, many Colorado fans feel nervous about his situation. Webb took a visit to Cal earlier this month and there was a report by ESPN that he plans to check out Auburn.

“I talk to Davis Webb basically every day, almost every night,” MacIntyre said. “He has told me every time he is definitely coming to Colorado. I don't have any other reason to think why he wouldn't.

“I just don't like the rule. He signed a financial aid agreement with us but everybody else can still recruit him and badger him and try to manipulate him, which I do not agree with. I think that is wrong, but that is the way the rule is. But I believe he will still be here at Colorado.”

When asked about his status last week, Webb told 247Sports, “I”m still committed to Colorado. I love them. But I only get one shot at this thing.”

He then told Sports on Earth this week, “I”m a selfless guy, but I want to make sure this decision is selfish because I only have six months there. I want to make sure I have a chance to compete and make an impact on a program, leave a legacy and get my master's.”

Webb has said he plans to join his new team on May 21, a day after he graduates from Texas Tech. The first summer school session at Colorado begins on May 31.
