Recruiting crunch time for five CU targets – Analysis and predictions

A closer look at five of Colorado's top remaining targets from the Class of 2016.

Pookie Maka | Murray (Utah) Cottonwood | 6-foot-3, 200-pound outside linebacker

Three-star | 5.7 RR

Blair Angulo, Midlands recruiting analyst: "He is so rangy and I think that is very important in the Pac-12 right now, having a guy that can play outside. Pookie can get in the backfield but he also has the ability to cover tight ends and scat backs that are going out in motion. Pookie is a good example of a defender that can be very versatile. Because of that, you could have him as a 3-4 outside linebacker, you could have him rush the passer. Something else that stood out when I saw him person, and something his coaches have told me, he has never really been in a weight program. So once he gets in a college weight room, they expect him to put on some good weight but also maintain his athleticism. He is good from hash-mark to sideline, he is good moving laterally. He is also very aggressive. He can attack the ball and really stay close with ball carriers downfield. He is very athletic. Overall, Pookie Maka is just a well-rounded recruit."

Fua Pututau | Murray (Utah) Cottonwood | 6-foot-2, 245-pound inside linebacker

Three-star | 5.6 RR

Blair Angulo, Midlands recruiting analyst: "If you've seen his film, he has such great burst and he is so aggressive. That is what really stands out. He is a big hitter, loves to stick his head in there and get after the ball carrier. He is really quick off the snap, has great agility, great first step and just attacks. Colorado could definitely use a player like him in the future. He might not be a superstar but he appears to be a guy that can play a big role for years to come. He can still develop. The coaches at Cottonwood have been telling me that with both Fua and Pookie, their ceiling is so high, they have just kind of scratched the surface right now. With both guys, you see that the potential is there."

Beau Bisharat | Carmichael (Calif.) Jesuit | 6-foot-2, 215-pound athlete

Four-star | 5.8 RR

Adam Gorney, West coast recruiting analyst: "Beau has good size, he's athletic, fast and tough to tackle. If he is going to be used as a running back or a hybrid on offense, he is a guy where you can put the ball in his hands and he is going to get extra yards. He is always falling forward. He is a pounder. If he is used on defense as a linebacker, he can move sideline-to-sideline, make a lot of tackles. For his size, he covers a lot of ground."

Colleges still in the running: Colorado, Arizona State, Cal and Michigan

Keanu Saleapaga | La Mirada (Calif.) High | 6-foot-6, 258-pound defensive end

Three-star | 5.6 RR

Adam Gorney, West coast recruiting analyst: "Keanu is a little bit raw still. He is a kid that is still kind of learning the game. But from a size perspective, he is one of the best looking defensive ends in California this year. I'd like to see him be a little bit more dominant in games. Sometimes it just seems like he doesn't know how to play the position yet. He'll engage an offensive tackle and stand there. He needs to develop more inside and outside moves. But from a physical standpoint, he is a great looking recruit."

Lorenzo Burns | Temecula (Calif.) Linfield Christian | 5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete

Three-star | 5.6 RR

Adam Gorney, West coast recruiting analyst: "I haven't seen Lorenzo much, but I have seen him on tape and he seems really intelligent. He always makes the right play. He is extremely athletic and can move very well, so you can put him at a bunch of different positions and he is going to be someone who produces at a high level for you."
