Top 50 California athlete giving Colorado serious consideration

When Trajon Cotton narrows down his list of suitors in the near future, it will include 10 colleges. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete from Sacramento (Calif.) Inderkum is fortunate to have a lengthy offer list, including offers from programs in eight different conferences.

“I am just enjoying the process, having fun,” said Cotton, who is currently ranked among the top 50 prospects from the Golden State this cycle.

Cotton has not had a chance to visit many schools early in the process, but he did make it out to Boulder to check out the Buffaloes on Saturday.

“I didn't know what it was going to be like. Everybody told me the scenery was beautiful but the weather was better than everybody says,” Cotton said of his Colorado visit. “All the facilities there are pretty cool. The whole campus and everything was very nice. It was an amazing trip. I liked it a lot.”

Cotton played with current Buff N.J. Falo in 2014, and he currently plays with N.J.'s younger brother Josh Falo at Inderkum. Colorado said he could end up playing any of the positions in the secondary if he committed to them.

“They said they could see me at safety or nickel or even corner. They have a lot of seniors going out and they think I could make an early impact,” Cotton said.

Cal, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, Utah and Washington State are some of the other programs after Cotton. He plans to attend the Bruins' spring game.

“There are a lot of schools still in the mix,” he said. “After I narrow it down to a top 10, I'll probably just go with the flow until I make my commitment.”

A first-team all-league, all-section, all-county and all-metro selection as a junior, Cotton started at both quarterback and safety while helping Inderkum to 12 wins and a Tri-County Conference league title.

“I grew up playing quarterback so I feel I have good knowledge of the game. As a sophomore, my first year playing defensive back, I just took off with it,” Cotton said. “I pride myself on having a lot of energy on the field, a relentless attitude.”

What will help him make his college decision?

“I am looking for a family environment, somewhere I am respected, feel comfortable at, and somewhere that offers a good education to set me up for my future,” Cotton said.
