Turner currently favors the Buffs

Ronnie Turner has two more official visits planned, so his recruitment could include more twists and turns in the days leading up to signing day. But right now the wide receiver from Salinas (Calif.) Hartnell College has Colorado on top.

Following the graduation of Nelson Spruce, the Buffaloes will need other pass catchers to emerge in 2016. Shay Fields has a chance to become Colorado's new top receiver. He served as the player host for Ronnie Turner, a Junior College wide receiver prospect, this past weekend.

“It was fun hanging out with Shay. He said all the coaches there are really great, they treat you like family,” said Turner, who measured in at 6-foot-4.5, 177-pounds on his official visit to Colorado. “I got a good vibe from him, along with the other players on the team.

“They have a new receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator at Colorado (Darrin Chiaverini), who came from Texas Tech. I am sure he is going to bring some energy to the offensive side. He said he could use me for jump balls. He thinks I could be a pretty good target for them, so we'll see.”

During a previous interview with BuffStampede.com, Turner said there was a chance he would make a commitment during his trip to Boulder. But some new colleges have offered him in recent weeks.

“I would say Colorado is my favorite at this point. I really like them, and plus I like the Pac-12,” he said. “The whole football facility at Colorado was wonderful. I loved the weight room, the indoor practice field. It was just a fantastic all-around facility. It was a really great visit. I really enjoyed myself out there.”

Turner has lined up an official visit with Cincinnati for this coming weekend and he is scheduled to check out Mississippi State on Jan. 29. He has also kept in contact with coaches from Boise State and he has the Broncos in his top four.

“I am going to make my decision a little later on. It is a family decision so I am going to sit down and talk with them and go over everything with them and get it all situated,” Turner said. “I am just going to make sure I make a great decision for myself and my family.”

Turner has received other offers from Utah State, San Jose State, Middle Tennessee State, Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia State and Rhode Island throughout the recruiting process.

An under-recruited player, and non-qualifier out of Seaside High School in Northern California, Turner blossomed as a pass catcher at the Junior College level. He hauled in nearly 100 catches for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns as a freshman and sophomore at Hartnell.

"Of course my height helps me as an outside receiver. And for my height, I move pretty quick and I am pretty fast," said Turner. "I can jump well and I can catch well, and I can make a play after the catch. I am not just a possession receiver, that is what colleges have said they like."

Turner is set to earn his AA degree after the spring semester, so he will transfer to his four-year school of choice in the summer with three to play two.
