Udoffia sticking with Colorado

Washington recently made a late recruiting pitch to long-time Colorado pledge Trey Udoffia. Buffaloes fans don't need to panic, though, the three-star athlete prospect from Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro still plans to sign with Colorado on Wednesday.

“I am 100 percent solid with Colorado,” stated Udoffia, who has been verbally committed to the Buffs for six months now.

A recent official visit to Colorado confirmed to Udoffia that he made the right choice. Washington State, San Diego State and Utah State were among the other nine programs that offered him earlier in the process.

“I was hosted on my visit to Colorado by Chidobe Awuzie, which was great,” Udoffia said. “I met with some of the players when I visited Colorado the first time but I didn't talk to them. This time, I talked to a lot of them and they were all cool. I also saw the new facilities, which are pretty much finished now, and it is amazing.”

Udoffia said he measured in at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds during his most recent trip to Boulder. He hopes to get up to 185-pounds by the time he starts his first camp with the Buffaloes. After starring on both sides of the ball at the prep level, Udoffia is expected to factor in at cornerback at Colorado.

“When Colorado saw me play cornerback at their camp last summer, that is what made them want to offer," he said. "[Head] coach [Mike] Mac[Intyre] and [cornerbacks] coach [Charles] Clark both think I can come in and play as a freshman. That is very motivating to me.

“They don't have many cornerbacks right now so I am going to be trying to get a spot. They tell me to keep working hard because then want me to be able to make an impact as soon as I can. The fact Colorado is giving me a chance to compete was a big part of my decision to go there.”

A proud participant in International Bowl VII at AT&T Stadium in Texas on Sunday, Udoffia hauled in a 32-yard touchdown, helping USA's Under-19 team to a win over Canada's Under-19 squad.

Udoffia earned first-team all-state honors on Monday, and he was previously selected as the 2015 Sac-Joaqin Section Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 19.7 yards per catch and played the role of lockdown corner as a senior. Despite being slowed by an ankle injury late in the season, Udoffia helped Del Oro to its first ever CIF state championship.

Udoffia will make his commitment to the Buffaloes official on Wednesday morning, then enjoy a signing day ceremony at Del Oro at 3 pm before playing in a basketball game with the Golden Eagles in the evening.

“I am looking forward to being done with the recruiting process and officially being a Colorado Buff,” he said.
