Wallace will pick Buffs or Wildcats

Jarrius Wallace was in Colorado last weekend, and now the 6-foot-1, 170-pound safety prospect from Marrero (La.) John Ehret will check out one of the Buffaloes' Pac-12 South rivals before making his college decision next week.

Growing up in the New Orleans area, Jarrius Wallace never thought he would end up playing college football in the Pac-12. But after de-committing from Central Florida, it was two programs in the “Conference of Champions” that emerged as his favorites.

“This has just been a great experience for me. To be able to go and see places like Colorado, it's amazing. It is different from where I live at,” said Wallace, who was hosted by junior-to-be defensive back Afolabi Laguda during his trip to Boulder last weekend.

“If I went to Colorado, I feel like I would be part of something special. They are rebuilding and getting their program back to where it needs to be,” said Wallace. “And education wise, they offer a lot. My trip there was better than I expected it to be. They have very nice facilities and the people out there are great. I liked the environment a lot.”

Wallace received an offer from Arizona earlier this month. He had been in contact with Wildcats safeties coach Jahmile Addae for a while.

“I've heard Arizona is real nice and I like their uniforms,” Wallace said. “I will just see what they have to offer me education wise and see what I could do to help them, if I am needed there. I will see what the environment is like and then I will make my decision off of how it goes there.

“My decision will come down to Colorado and Arizona. There is no favorite, no front runner right now. I just have to pick what is best for me, what fits best. I want to know I will be comfortable where I am living for the next four years.”

Wallace earned first-team all-district and all-metro honors as a safety after recording roughly 40 tackles, seven interceptions and one forced fumble during his senior campaign. He helped John Ehret to a district title and an appearance in the 5A state championship game.

“Which ever college I choose, they will get a determined player that will work hard and make big plays,” Wallace said. “I will give my all in football but also put my education first and take care of business in the classroom. As far as football, I like the Pac-12's style of play. The ball gets thrown around so there is a chance to make a lot of plays.”
